BBC Outside Broadcast Unit - Cambridge

A very early start with my daughter, HIllview, to get the last items of food. Then with my grandson I caught the 0927 hours train to Cambridge. Oliver had been to an all-night party, he was hungry, dehydrated and had no sleep; he had also one or two Strongbow ciders too many I think!

As we went to get off the train I realised that the tickets I purchased yesterday for today had the wrong date on them, this took twenty minutes to sort out. Armed with a bottle of water for Oliver we then caught the bus from the railway station to the city, where our first stop was at the café in British Home Stores for a breakfast for Oliver and a black coffee for me.

There were not as many people about as I expected and the queues were not very long, within two hours Oliver had purchased all the presents he needed and was ready for lunch. We had to queue for twenty two minutes to get a seat in Carluccios, but as they do gluten free food we did not mind, they also do a very good chocolate fondant desert which is also gluten free.

Then back on the bus to the railway station where we discovered that there had been an accident and all the trains going north had been cancelled, fortunately we were going south.

It was very, very wet in Cambridge and maybe this is why there were not that many people about. Today's picture shows the BBC Outside Broadcast vehicle parked outside King's College in Cambridge and shows how wet was. It is there ready for the live broadcast of nine lessons and carols from King's College Chapel on Christmas Eve.

If we have not got it now, we are not having it!!
