A Giraffe is not for Christmas

What with all the weather and Mayan prophecy stuff of recent days I had quite forgotten that one of the factors in the row between the government and the police was the decision, rebuffed by the Home Office last year, to appoint a former US police chief as the UK's mega policeman. Had the plan gone ahead we could now be facing policing by US style armed Bobbies.
That would been almost a strange as coming across a field of Giraffe's in the Scottish countryside.
