wild & precious life

Dinosaur food!

Not what you expect to see growing in Northumberland.
Apparently this quarry garden at Belsay has its own microclimate where plants can grow beyond their normal northern limit.
Google lens informed me that this is either a Chilean or Brazilian giant rhubarb plant. The Brazilian version is also called Dinosaur food which ties in with my daughter's reaction of saying the garden reminded her of Jurassic Park.
We had a lovely stroll through the garden to the castle where we ate our picnic. It was a lot more open there though and got quite chilly. On the walk back we stopped to watch a game of croquet (see extra).
