Male Kestrel
An uneventful but very pleasant day. A misty start followed by sunshine. We were making our way up the Ashby Canal which has a different feel from the Coventry canal. It feels more rural and a little narrower. Having no locks it meanders around a lot to keep a level route through the countryside.
During the morning this male Kestrel posed nicely beside the canal. Once the commonest bird of prey in the UK it has been over taken by the buzzard. To prove the point more Buzzards have been showing themselves to us this is the first Kestrel.
Rain in the afternoon turned into a dry and pleasant evening. Clickychick and I had a stroll along the towpath. Lots of wild flowers caught out eye but most noticeable were the drifts of Cowslips with Violets scattered among them.
