Fen Shed
Another cold grey day spent mostly at home, broken up by a visit to the farm shop at Deeping St. Nicholas to restock supplies of bird food. We also purchased three bunches of local asparagus, which were used in our evening meal of pasta with spring vegetables, chilli and feta - scrumptious!
We came home via Langtoft and Baston gravel pits, where we had a short roadside walk and recorded a surprisingly high number of species, mostly from a roadside ditch. This old farm building is characteristic of many scattered through the fens - not quite as grand as yesterdays ruin!
Chris was supposed to be flying back from Plovdiv in Bulgaria tonight, but his plane was struck by lightning on the way in, and Ryanair had to fly in an engineer from Italy to fix the resulting damage, a ten minute job when he arrived. In the end his plane took off over four hours late, so hopefully he'll be able to claim compensation - a moderate recompense for a night with no sleep!
