The Applecross day

This is a beautiful coral beach near Culduie, where we relaxed and ate our picnic in the sun.

Relaxing was badly needed after the hairy drive on the winding, single track road to get to Applecross. Built in the 1820s, the Pass of the Cattle is like a mountain pass, complete with REAL hairpin bends. As it zigzags up the steep side of the mountain, the views are stupendous but we encouraged our driver not to look at them! When the road is such as this one you can't afford to take your eyes off it for a second....

The poor quality of the road surface adds to the whole experience. There are pot holes a plenty and a crumbling road edge only feet from a sheer drop. We joked about the council swiftly removing cars that tumbled off the road, so as not to put off the tourists.

Needless to say we took the less challenging, but equally beautiful coast road out of Applecross at the end of the day.
