Wisley Take Two

After a long and tiring day, I'm a little surprised to say that I quite enjoyed it ;-)

After the torrential rain yesterday, we weren't exactly optimistic about the forecast today, but somehow it was better than we feared. We all decided to wear wellies, so out came the Hunter's, and the children all wore wellies too.

I was up at 6:30am today after waking up at 5am. I have been dreading this trip, and I was a bit tetchy yesterday when I was thinking about it.

Thankfully it was dry-ish until we arrived, and then the first spots of rain started to fall. But then the sun broke out and we had blue skies and we were all a bit warm having kitted ourselves out for winter! We gave them a little sheet ready to do a mini beast hunt, and and they loved walking around the gardens trying to tick things off the list. We walked through the herb garden and fruit trees, and then did some bark rubbings on the trees.

It started to rain, and we made our way to the covered area whilst it showered and they ate their lunch. After 30 minutes they were done, so we headed over to the playground, where they had time to cavort and shriek until their heart's content!

I decided it would be a good time to head over to the glasshouse, which was a good decision as the rain started and by the time we got under the shelter it was torrential! Luckily we were fine, but the other class got soaked!

We filled the time by having a meander around the glasshouse and then sat them down to draw their favourite plant. Earlier, we had decided that staying until 3:15pm was too long, so arranged for the coach to be ready for us at 2pm, so around 1:30 we headed back towards the exit and toilets.

It went very smoothly, and after four hours there, I think we'd had our fill. Apart from the usual difficulties of trying to keep everybody together, and some squabbling about who was going to hold my hand, there were no accidents, no travel sickness, and we didn't lose anybody!

I'm knackered.
