Dorchester - backblip
We’ve had a mooch round Dorchester today (the birthplace and home for the short life of Mr T’s Father, so sadly killed in WW2 at the age of 32); and on the way stopped off at Portesham to have a butchers at the Hardy Monument. A splendid structure, situate on a high point which can be seen from miles around. The Monument, car park and grounds around are managed by the National Trust and the chap on duty there asked if we would like to ascend the steep 120 spiral steps to gaze upon the views from the top (bearing in mind it’s pretty windy down below, so it's likely to be gale force above) but like the intrepid adventurer I am (not) Mr T and I decided to accept the offer (challenge) and up we went – my legs started to wobble early on but apart from a few short pauses we popped out at the top and WOW, the 365 panoramic views were indeed stunning and well worth the climb, shame it was too windy to stay out long though.
Then on to Dorchester where we picnicked in the beautiful Borough Gardens before having a walk all around this lovely town, spending time down Princes Street and imagining Mr T’s Father as a young boy growing up in this lovely area.
Extras: A bed of Narcissus in the gardens still going strong, the Tower and one of the views
