Finding the solution
Oxburgh has to have major work done on the roof which entails, of course, scaffolding. There is already scaffolding in the courtyard but it is also needed on the other side of the building - that is, in the moat! This week they have mounted an experiment to see how the scaffolding can be erected without damaging the moat bed. The diagram and information sheet - see extras - show what is happening and why. There are huge sandbags in the lake with some scaffolding on them supporting massive water containers full of water - the weight of the water is equal to the weight of the scaffolding that will be on it.The structure will be examined every week to check if there is any movement and also to check the water quality in the moat for the plant and fish life that lives there. All very interesting - work will take at least 2 yers to complete.
