Business Dreams in Oswestry
Henry Jordan was only half listening to his brother-in-law William Boyer, droning away in the background - something about his dreams of sailing to America to make his fortune there. "I'm not sure a carpenter can do any better there than here" he thought. His thoughts were more on building up his business in Owestry, Shropshire. Next week he planned to install a bathroom in his house in Beatrice Street - it would make a good advertisement for his plumbing business - one day all houses would have bathrooms.
I did some more work on Mum's doll house today, and have started to install the lights and I have blipped the result. The background story is based on our ancestry: Henry was Mum's Grandad, a plumber in Oswestry whom she remembers 'building half of Owestry'. We have recently discovered an American link in William, his wife Amelia's older brother, who arrived in Detriot, Michigan on Christmas Day 1913.
