Christmas Eve (The Vision)

My husband and I started the day with an argument which was a real shame. I was cross that he had left all his shopping until the last minute (again, happens every year) when I'd planned a day together.

I'm terrible. I get these visions of how a day should be (I always have) and I run them like little trailers for a movie in my mind. Then when the day deviates from the vision, I get cross.

We made up when he returned from Manchester, laden down with bags like the guy in It's A Wonderful Life.

Audrey managed a two hour nap over lunch so he cooked me my favourite - steaks with béarnaise sauce (see pic of table) with a glass of wine to make up for it. Said we should make steaks on Christmas Eve a new family tradition!

Then we spent the afternoon wrapping presents and watching movies, whilst our little elf rolled around on the rug and was generally as cute as a button.

Christmas Eve tradition at my parents' farm was always to snack on food like cheese potatoes and sausage rolls in the evening so we made some for nostalgia's sake. The house smelt exactly like home. Which is where I'll be tomorrow, can't wait....
