Backblip 19 May: Force 10 from Aveyron
Happy Birthday to me... The Driver moved us on to Aumont Abrac, where he had booked a table at a Michelin starred restaurant for my birthday dinner. The weather was a little unkind for the journey and mostly masked the imagined wonderful views. We stopped at the Aveyron visitor centre by the new bridge but were not in the least tempted to wander up to the viewpoint. On a better day, when the views were visible, then maybe.
The visitor centre is beautifully done and is housed in a sympathetic renovation of an old farmhouse. Well worth the visit. We did not sample the gourmet restaurant due to wanting to maintain empty tummies for later. That too must wait for another visit.
Okay, so the weather wasn't all that windy but a stiff breeze has been the order of the day recently.
Aumont Aubrac didn't provide much (any!) photo opportunity in day-long torrential rain. The village had a similar feel to a Dales, Lakeland or Highland walking centre and not surprisingly so, at almost 1500 metres elevation. Goretex and boots featured strongly as the local fashion theme.
Thankfully the weather dried up in time for our walk to the restaurant, where we had a superb dinner and now have our no 2 favourite restaurant. (No 1 remains The Cellar at Anstruther - it has no equal,, so far as we have travelled.)
