Squash bug
So called, apparently, because some feed on squash plants. I believe this one is a Coreus marginatus. According to my wildlife book, some species of squash bugs when threatened produce unpleasant or fruity-smelling secretions from special glands in the thorax. Hopefully this is the fruity variety! I came across it in the garden while stalking bees (one of which is in Extras). Then it got a bit breezy so I had to stop.
Got the final draft of one paper finished and sent off to my co-collaborator today so I'm going to take the rest of the day off. Mr DA and I will be walking down to the polling station this evening to cast our votes (to quote the Lib Dems, B*llocks to Brexit!).
