Odd Woman Out
A small selection of The Old Lady's many Christmas Cards. The more astute viewer will notice that one of them doesn't quit fit the general theme.
A week after TOL's birthday last July, all the cards were taken down and put away in a box somewhere, except for one which was quietly forgotten about and has, since then, been on the mantle-shelf all by its lonesome self - that is until it was rescued by the coming of Christmas. It still seems to sit there like a sore thumb; perhaps HRH has such an appendage which might account for the expression on her face.
Back in the dim and distant past, an official portrait of HRH was unveiled, I think it was the 1969 Annigoni; a critic of the time commented in all innocence that her face showed the strains of sitting nearly twenty years on the throne. I immediately obtained a print of said portrait and stuck it on the door of what is euphemistically known as the bathroom.
I have, incidentally, wondered for many a long year why there is no word in the English language for "the smallest room" - we only have euphemisms.
I leave you with that thought - and may tomorrow bring you all that you could desire.
