Diary of an Edinburgher

Pub lunch

Jordan took Archie out this morning, and what a lovely day it was too. In fact, his wife and wee daughter also went with them, the first of many visits for the wee lass (though she slept through it all).

We sat outside in the sun, and it was one of those days where neighbours kept stopping for a chat - only possible when barky Archie is OUT. Even when Archie came back and a neighbour was still here, he was too tired to bother to bark. Good.

We then left him at home to relax and went down town. We popped into a favourite cafe, famed for its good coffee and laid back vibe. I liked the litter bin. And the walls are fascinating. We could have saved a lot of time and money by leaving our kitchen walls, er, unfinished...

That's not litter on the floor, it's paintwork from a school hall which had lots of sports courts painted on. Could well have been the school that we used to teach in, which was forcibly closed - it had a magnificent hall with a proper stage. Of course, now they need to build a new school in that area...

We then went to the Dovecot Studio to visit the Orla Kiely exhibition. But it was £9 each, so we didn’t bother. £18? I'd rather have a nice lunch! Or, indeed, pay the same price to see Grayson Perry's exhibition coming soon. We had a (free) look in the weaving studio instead. Although the cafe food looked quite inviting, they were playing screechy muzak, so they did not get our custom. Though JR would have stayed.

Jordan told us to pop into the old pub opposite - he used to sing and play guitar there. It's a real original folky pub - very cute - and they were playing nice quiet folky music, so we had a half of lager and a bag of crisps. It's on the Rebus Tours - he must have frequented it.

JR went on into town to get some bigger light bulbs for the hall and I got the bus home, tired.
