30yrs of Stonewall

Stonewall was established in 1989 in response to Section 28 which of course was was a massive step backwards and something that impacted me directly as I had a 6yr old daughter. It banned any conversations or recognition of same sex relationships in schools. They were difficult years and of course I was worried about the threat of bullying for Sam who was in a very loving family, but also of losing my child. It’s crazy to think of those times now and the marches we went on and the hidden venues where we’d get together with like minded people.
The Greater London Council funded the London Lesbian & Gay Centre in Farringdon in 1985 where we’d go as a family and we had a lot of good times there.
Thank heavens times are very different for us now in the UK, and in London we can be ourselves in all circumstances. That’s not to say that there isn’t still more to do to have “Acceptance Without Exception”
