A Very Australian Xmas.
We headed off to the local state forest picnic grounds today for our Australian Xmas dinner. It was called Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary.
We didn't see one koala but we did see about 20 wallabies, a lot of them had joey's in their pouches.
This particular wallaby was very friendly and looking for food and came right up to me as I fed her bits and pieces. The baby joey was quite big and very cute. It was a hot day and although we put some water in a bowl she wasn't interested in that only the food.
The other added attractions were a whole crowd of these funny little squawking birds called Noisy Minors that also rushed in at any sign of food. There was a large contingent of rowdy crows and a few kookaburra's were heard in the distance.
We slathered ourselves in sunscreen to prevent any sunburn and insect repellant as there were many flying bitey things! The men cooked a fine BBQ and we had that with lovely salads and beers in the shade, there was a slight breeze so it was very pleasant. The ants were in full force and managed to get into everything and bite our feet!
That was our Australian Xmas 2012, and we loved it :)
