Coat of many colours

and boots to match! We headed into Downham Market to visit an Open Studio, to find that the town was heaving - we had somehow managed not to notice that it was carnival today! Ooops. Anyway, there was an amateur art exhibition on in the town hall, which was excellent, with some really good work for sale, so we mooched around that, and then the parade was about to start so we loitered outside the Open Studio to watch it go past - a modest affair with some classic cars, vintage tractors, a few motorbikes and a smattering of floats. This colourful character was near the start, and I couldn't resist a quick blip on the phone!

When we did finally get to what we'd originally gone to town for, it was great - Sue Welfare is a printmaker and textile artist, mostly working on coastal Norfolk scenes and subjects from nature. She also does papercuts using a colour technique I'd not seen before, which gives a kind of Tiffany stained glass effect. A very talented artist, who was also delightful and spoke animatedly about the technical side of her work, sharing tips (I also dabble in printmaking) and suggesting materials I could experiment with. Altogether a very pleasant morning!
