Tomb hunting
For all my time in Paris over the years I have never visited the Pere Lachaise cemetery.
As the forecast for today was better then previously suggested we headed there around lunchtime.
A massive site with, it is rumoured, a million bodies buried there. Many famous names : Chopin, Rossini, Berlioz, Isadora Duncan, Edith Piaf, Maria Callas to name but a few. And of course Jim Morrison of The Doors. All very peaceful and in dappled shade.
It is a maze and a higgledy piggledy jumble of monuments. Most plain; some huge; some ornate and statuesque. if you have a map that helps - a bit. Jim Morrison was found easily - see extra of detail. But, say, Maria Callas needs specific knowledge of the tomb number where her plaque is displayed. You have to enter the crematorium building, go down a floor - see extra - and find the tomb number.
The main blip is of Eloise and Averard. A tale of love and tragedy - and castration. The 2 lovers are depicted laid side by side.
After a meal sitting in the sun we headed for a bateau mouche cruise on the Seine in the evening light. a further source of photos!
