Upsetting for me...

....as an ex employee of the DWP, latterly working in the policy field of benefits for disabled people and carers. This excerpt is from Private Eye.
I wasn't responsible for the day to day running of the system, but dedicated people were, and it all went well. Enter out-sourcing,  cost-cutting and computer systems which were meant to reduce the work but didn't. What seems to have happened is that overpayments, even when detected, were not dealt with and so escalated. Then the carers were accused of fraud and fined on top of the repayments.  Misery all round.
