Groovy, baby!
It wasn’t a surprise that the show we saw last night, Hamilton, was excellent. It lived up to all the media hype and our high expectations, with superb rap style singing, slickly executed dance moves, a brilliant musical score and an interesting story line. It was also humorous in parts, particularly the role played by the English king. What was surprising was the reaction of the audience, after the very first opening song, and thereafter, the audience reacted by whooping, whistling, cheering - not something we usually witness in British theatres but possibly the audience were largely American. It was a terrific show and we would like to see it again with our boys who would enjoy it very much.
Today has been a lazy day at home, enjoying the first official day of summer with blue skies, bright sunshine and about 25C. The morning started with a run through the woods with Gavin and I struggled a bit today, I think the late nights don’t help. We saw three Vizzies on their morning walks but did not stop to chat (as I probably would not have wanted to carry on running again!) We had a burgers for lunch on the BBQ, and I managed to finish reading my book, The Queen of Bloody Everything which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Tonight we are going to a 60th birthday party which is fancy dress, the theme being 1970’s disco ... so my blip is us all dressed up for the event. The party is about an hour and 20 minutes away from where we live and initially we thought we would stay over but we prefer to come home again, even if it means one of us don’t drink and with a very late night journey home again. I want to be home for Thomas tomorrow morning as it is his last day before half term finishes and his tough week of many exams begins.
Adam writes his last exam today, which may be his last exam he ever writes in his life (when doing his PhD next year it is not exam based). His friends will be ready with bottles of bubbly to spray over him as he comes out of the exam (3 hours and 15 minutes later) - it’s a tradition that they always do at Cambridge and probably at other universities too. I cannot believe he is now finished, and graduates at the end of the month after four years.
