Remember

Came across this remembrance plaque today. Translated:

'In remembrance of the perished crew members of the British Stirling bomber, LJ 883, 570 Squadron, RAF, that crashed here on September 23rd 1944, after being hit by German anti-aircraft guns while on a resupplying flight for the Airborne forces at Oosterbeek during the Battle for Arnhem [Market Garden]'

6 of them died, 2 survived the crash. I don't know what happened to them afterwards. If they were lucky they got hidden by the local population (which is not that unlikely: this region was sparsely populated and the terrain is rugged, so a lot of opportunities to hide people -a friend of mine has stories from his granddad who was in the resistance here). If they were less lucky, at least a year of captivity awaited them.
