Sunset

The sky looked nice enough to blip.

While I was making the picture, I constantly heard the bangs of distant fireworks. I don't know how this is arranged in other countries, but here everyone can buy fireworks to use for himself in the days before New Year's Eve. It's a shame, however, that some people abuse this every year by blowing up things like dustbins, mailboxes or bus shelters (besides themselves; there are always dozens of people who get hurt). A lot of heavy, illegal fireworks are smuggled to here; Belgium is the main source but Eastern Europe is becoming popular as well.
I don't want to sound like a grumpy old man complaining about 'the youth of today', and of course 90% of the people does handle fireworks responsibly; most of this vandalism is committed by young males like I am. In fact, friends of mine have Belgian fireworks as well because it's heavier. But at least they don't destroy public property with it...

On a very different note: here you can see the result of a visit I recently made to an archaeological excavation by our university, within the context of our promotional campaign.
