Shadow Monsters
This is a shot of a interactive installation at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), where we spent most of the day. Participants step in front of a huge light box (on the left), and a video camera sends their moving shadows to a computer, which in turn extends the images with various shapes--e.g. the pointed hats, producing the "Shadow Monsters". The results are projected onto two full-sizes screens--one is visible in the background. (I might have gotten Marylee to blip me on the stand, or vice-versa).
The main exhibition which we saw was "Inventing Abstraction, 1910-1925". In my view that period was the most intensely innovative in the historical development of modern art, and the show took full advantage of that--it was fascinating.
The weather was not fascinating; though it's raining here in Manhattan, it is snowing in Northampton--where we'll be headed tomorrow.
