Giacometti with Shadows

We spent the morning at the Metropolitan Museum before driving back to Northampton. I was fascinated by the shadows cast by this sculpture (on opposite sides); it's "Three Men Walking" by Alberto Giacometti. He's Swiss and one of my favorite artists. In fact I have already blipped this room--it's part of my new mini-series on Giacomettii.

The painting in the background is "Therese Dreaming", by Balthus.

We re-visited the exhibition on Matisse's multiple versions of the same subject (which we had also seen at the Pompidou Center in Paris earlier this year). And we also saw the current selection of the museums collection of works by Paul Klee (1879-1940). It comprised works from the later part of his career, including some after 1936, when he learned he was fatally ill.
