The Quaker Tapestry

A rather wet day

We went to visit the Quaker Tapestry exhibition in the centre of Kendal. It is an amazing piece of creativity. It consists of 77 panels, took 15 years and involved 4,000 people from 15 countries - and it is truly amazing. It tells the story of the founding of the Quaker Movement through George Fox and highlights all the important themes of Quakerism.

The panel shown here recalls many of the major companies founded by Quakers, including Rowntree, Cadbury, London Lead Co and Huntley Palmer. It includes the quote by Rowntree, ‘The gospel must be social’.
