TAG . . . Thunderbirds Are Go !
Yesterday Gerald Alexander (Gerry) Anderson died. He was THE creator of puppet-based TV adventure series for over 40 years, giving total enjoyment to children old and young.
His titles, all childhood favourites in the UK and across the world, included The Adventures of Twizzle
Torchy the Battery Boy
Four Feather Falls
Fireball XL5
Stingray
Joe 90
and, of course, the greatest of them all, Thunderbirds, which began in 1965.

Thunderbirds showed the adventures of the Tracy Family, fighting to save people the world over from the bad guys in the guise of International Rescue.

Each member of the Tracy family was named after Mercury Mission American Astronauts.
Father Jeff Tracy - Jeff Tracy Moon Lander
Scott - pilot of Thunderbird 1 - Scott Carpenter
Virgil - pilot of Thunderbird 2 - Virgil Grissom
Alan - astronaut in Thunderbird 3 - Alan Shepard
Gordon - aquanaut of Thunderbird 4 - Gordon Cooper
John - aboard space station Thunderbird 5 - John Glenn

Gerry often stated that he hated working with puppets - yet he was able to produce such great work. Imagine what he could do nowadays with CGI technology.

The image today shows the cover of Thunderbirds The Comic - issue35 dated 6th February 1993. This 24 page comic sold for 75p in the UK and was published by the ITC Entertainment Group.
