A Fine Spot for Crick Sitting

My husband's birthday is in mid-June, and so every year around this time, he thinks up things he likes to do, and we go and do them. One of the summertime activities we enjoy is swimming, and there is a fine swimming pool at Hyner Run State Park, not far from Renovo.

So on Friday, I exchanged emails with them, asking when their pool would be open, and when might it be closed. It was closed for the day Friday because the kids were still in school (the last day of it); the local high-schoolers are among the people who serve as lifeguards at the pool.

We also learned that the pool would be undergoing some either small or large renovations (yet to be decided), which would close it for at least a week and possibly as much as SEVERAL weeks, starting this coming Sunday. So on Saturday, guess where we went: we threaded the needle, and drove up to the park for a swim on the only day it would be available to us!

And so we had a lovely swim. Jack the head lifeguard was there, and he and my husband like to chat things up. The water was a comfortable 72 degrees F and the air temperature was 75. There was hardly anybody there when we arrived, but then several families with children arrived, so it became quite busy later.

Just before we left for home, we walked down along the run, where we spent a happy half-hour. I had my camera, of course, and strolled along the banks taking pictures of the lush green reflections on the water.

My husband had brought his chair and his water shoes, and he waded for a while in the cool, fresh water. He placed his chair in the stream, as you may see above, and eventually sat in it, right in the water. This is indeed a fine spot for crick sitting! ("Crick," rather than "creek," as we say informally around these parts.)

Here is a fine song to go crick sitting by: the Band, with Up on Cripple Creek, from the film The Last Waltz.
