WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

Up the Creek without a Paddle!

Frank woke at 6am to say we needed to get moving as the river had risen overnight. When I looked out of the window the tow path was well under water. The worry was that if the level went down we could get caught on the ledge and topple. Poor Bella couldn't get off to do her morning business!
We were on our way up the Ouse by 6.10am.
Bella started running frantically to the front doors of the boat obviously getting desperate. In the end the poor dog had to poo on deck and looked so ashamed :-( it was easy cleaned up.
A while later we found a rickety old pontoon and tried to moor up. In the process Frank almost slipped into the river and then while he was holding the centre rope a gust of wind caught the boat and sent me across the other side of the river and Frank had to let go. I managed to get the boat under control but then the rope must have got stuck round the propellor and I couldn't steer. I reversed and the rope was released so I was able to get back to where Frank was looking very worried on the pontoon.
We got underway again and Frank was steering. He took his varifocals off to put suncream on his face and lay them on the seat - then Bella promptly swished them with her tail and knocked them into the river and off they floated.....250 quids worth!
We eventually got to some visitor moorings at 10.15 and we've had the rest of the day off.
And yes we all had life jackets on throughout!
