Back in time
A trip to Mycenae today took us back in time. As much time elapsed between the heyday of Mycenae in 13th C BCE and the era of classical Greece as has done between the Battle of Hastings and today. That's a sobering thought.
As with the other 'sights' I've seen this week, I was most impressed by Mycenae. It was not just the monumental scale of the buildings, but also the situation on top of a hill. By this stage, it was becoming clear that visiting any classical sights meant a good amount of walking and - even more obviously - walking up and down hills. My extras today are a view of the hills from Mycenae (including the inevitable pink flowers) and a view of the promenade at Nafplion, which we visited in the evening after checking into the hotel just on the outskirts. I really am going to miss the colour as much as the heat of Greece.
