Howth Head, Dublin

I first saw this sight when I was a small boy. My favourite uncle (I think I may have been his favourite nephew too) took me out there on the back of his motorcycle and any time I find myself on the North side of Dublin, with time on my hands, I take a trip out there to relive the memory.
Dublin is blessed with a wonderful, sweeping bay. Indeed in days gone by the city was known as the Naples of the North, a not unmerited description. The Bay sweeps from here in the North all the way down to Bray in the South. That's a distance of about 17 miles. That's about 27 or 28 Kms. You can see the Southern extremity of the bay in the background. The dark headland just right of centre is Bray Head which is the Southern end of the Bay. Best of all is the Dublin Area Rapid Transport Trains (DART) which allows passengers to commute easily between Howth and Bray.
What took me to Dublin? The Airport. Mrs. Joesblips needed to be dropped up there for her flight to London from where she will travel on to Helsinki tomorrow. She won't be home until January 6th so it's a lonely beginning to 2013 for me. Still the homecoming will be all the happier.
