Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2019 Friday — Door Day

At Funville it is Flag Day, maybe Baby day, and it is Door Day! Granddaughter Ashly is soon to have a baby, our 4th great-grandbaby. Today is her due date.

I’m so excited! Our new front and back doors were installed today. Two years ago when the renters left this place, the doors (not to mention a lot of other things), were terribly damaged. After 12 months of “fixing” some of the damage, and trying and then finally selling our big home, we moved back into our first home -- that was 1 year ago. For 24 years we lived in a large lovely home. This move back has been challenging and rewarding. We put a “For Sale” sign on this house 25 years ago. After 3 months of waiting, we were told there was an offer for less than what we were asking. In my frustration, I said “No!” I’m so glad I did.

That door! They call it periwinkle. A good friend said, “It’s a fun name!” They had one in the store that color. We first bought a white door. Then there was a delay because of details for other doors we’re getting. I kept going back to the display of sample doors and that periwinkle. I just REALLY liked it!!! I finally said, “I want that one!” I’m so glad I did. It was a special order, so it took longer to arrive. (Our retirement home, on California's Central Coast is painted lavender, so a periwinkle door on this house makes sense; don't you think?)

I like it! That’s exciting! The return to this house and getting the repairs and improvements completed has been a long journey, and often quite devastating.

I really like the new back door with glass to let light into the kitchen/dining room. The previous door was just like it, only each pane of glass was a separate piece. The renters had broken every pane and put in new glass and it looked like they had caulked each pane with bubble gum. The doorknob had been beaten with a hammer and terribly damaged. The renter told the property manager, “It was melted by the sun.” I don’t have to explain that I do not believe that story.

I am so thrilled that new doors were installed today. I’m so glad we kept this house. My parents bought it when I was a 9th grader in jr. high school. Today has been delightful.

But no new great grandbaby yet and it is almost 10:00 p.m. here in Southern California.

From Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
