The flowers are at their best on the machair in May and June. Here they are above the beach on the island of Berneray.

It rained heavily overnight and was still quite drizzly at 10am so we shelved our plan to walk across to Vallay Island, and instead we had a leisurely breakfast and then D made me a pair of minimal shoes, called huaraches :-)

Around midday the sun came out so we headed over the causeway to Berneray and walked for miles along the beach (and miles back..I've done almost 20,000 sandy steps today). 

It is a beautiful beach, and since so many of you said that you never tire of beach scenes, I've included one as my extra.
