Tales of the Riverbank
These are nesting holes on the River Ouse.
The inhabitants are Sand Martins and they were swooping down in flight to the surface of the water catching flies. I was hoping to capture a blip of them flying in and out of their nesting holes but they are so quick it was impossible.
It was a very long cruise from York to Naburn where we stayed overnight. It was raining heavily when we set off but cleared up as the day went on. Being on the river, you have to keep going as there are no places to moor up for a break so we take it in turns to steer and have to have our cuppas on the move. By the end of the day we're really tired with standing and being out in the fresh air for hours.
NB Tales of the Riverbank was a children's programme in the 50's/60's when I was very young ;-)
