Kowhai

Both of my new kowhai trees at the back are starting to flower. Kowhai is a native to NZ and the variety I have is smaller and eventually grows to 1.5-2m.

They're not confused and unlike their larger cousins that flower in spring, Sophora Dragons Gold flowers in winter.

To the left are the leaves of a small variety of Cabbage Tree. At full height it will max 2m.
