WITH A SONG IN MY HEART

The Workers

Frank and Bella May do all the hard work when we go through the locks. I used to do them all but there were so many that were difficult or impossible to open that we changed jobs.
Bella really thinks she's working - must be the sheep dog in her. She's always on Frank's heels and watches the process intently then checks my position in the lock.
The water coming through the gates of one of the locks was quite powerful today and knocked the boat from side to side quite violently, bashing the sides against the walls. It doesn't really do any damage though as the steel is really thick and solid.
By the time we moor up each day Bella May is knackered, she flops down and falls into a deep twitchy sleep.
