Viaduct Removal
For 65 years the Alaska Way Viaduct has separated downtown Seattle from its waterfront. That is slowly changing as this relic of a former car-centric era is being removed piece by piece. We visited Pike Place Market today for lunch with some of our housemates, but the real action, as far as I was concerned, was the mile and half in front of the market. The overlooks provided good vantage points to view the demolition which has been taking place since late February. As this photo shows, the entire central section is gone and only the two end pieces remain. I expect it we be completely gone by our next visit.
