Orta San Giulio

The guide books say that this is reckoned to be the prettiest lakeside town in Italy. And who am I to disagree?  Picture book Italian clichés. A view to the island from the balcony. Breakfast beckons. A morning hike up a long series of steps up to a hill top Unesco site of 20 little 17thCentury chapels with biblical scenes with life size models. Kind of kitsch but not , because of their age – all rather impressive.
 
More lake swimming and a perfectly cooked veal chop for dinner.
