Jerez Day 2 - Horses, flamenco and sherry
Backblip
First full day in Jerez and the heatwave continues ..... top temps today of 31 so we were on the go early for breakfast and walked up to the grounds and bought tickets for the Spanish dressage which was in an area across the road from the showground. The seats surrounding the show ring was thankfully under cover by the trees else we would have been frazzled! The is so unlike the English dressage for one thing it is mostly men in dashing uniforms. We really enjoyed it and also wandering round the stables as the police horses are also stabled here.
We headed over to the main site of the fair and as it was Ladies Day there was dresses of every colour some with lots of frills and some less so. There were all ages but what I noticed was the older ladies were the ones having the most fun. They were dancing in the bars to the flamenco music with Spanish guitars playing. The atmosphere was fabulous! I thought this picture summed up the atmosphere perfectly. They are loving life!
We sat in one of the sherry restaurants and had a Spanish omelette with a jug of refreshing sherry with sprite that one of the locals to,d us to get as was so refreshing and he was right. We sat for a while watching people parade up and down past us including the horses and carriages.
It was Time to go back into town but as it was so hot I couldn’t face the walk so we got a local bus, stopped off for a drink before heading back to the apartment for a shower and change of clothes before heading out for a meal.
