ode to a bauble...
...once belonging to grandma
falling into mama's hands - now into mine...
actually - i was thinking of the year coming to an end - things getting old - old things - the things that i have that are old... then found myself pottering around in those items i have once owned by my grandmother... i have - and have shared with you - several pieces of her jewelry here... somehow today - the word bauble popped into my head - why? who knows... grandma owned a lot of costume jewelry - many pieces of this and that - which she could wear, here and there... i guess perhaps i thought they'd fit into the category of baubles - wondered about the word and what did it really mean... so i blew the dust off the big 'ole book called a dictionary to look it up and found it to say in terms of definition:
trinket - boo! something of trifling appeal - double, boo!
in my mind - both of those rank right up there with being of not much worth... trifling - jeesh - might as well just call it frivolous, then... i don't deem this particular piece from grandma, frivolous - it's really quite pretty... but i'm sticking to my ode - hanging on to bauble - because i like how the word rolls off my tongue - believe grandma would be rather enchanted with the word, too - so there! that's all that matters - when it comes down to it, right? the whole point as i began all this - was in looking through her things - at old... keeping the old - enjoying the old we have - i have, because of the wonderful memories conjured forth... mission accomplished - i can say "thanks, grandma" who managed to make it...
a
happy day.....
