Out of the shadows

This is the Dunnock or Hedge Sparrow. They are not easy to spot, as they spend most of their time skulking in the undergrowth. They are not easy to photograph either, as they rarely come out into the open and are nervous little birds, never absolutely still.

They can be seen as dull, but are actually quite pretty birds, with the grey on the head and breasts. They have finer beaks than sparrows. as they feed mainly on insects rather than seeds. However, they do come after seeds in the winter and have really taken to the ground feeding we have been doing for the blackbirds and robin.

Note - It's not raining!
