One thing I like about commerce in Portugal is that it’s less likely to be accompanied by gaudy advertising than in many other places. Lots of shops are like this one on the left, tucked away, discreet and appearing to have changed very little for decades. It implies that shops survive on a steady stream of long-term customers rather than needing massive neon lighting to attract passersby.
