Yellow Shell

I photographed a brimstone butterfly, catching the early morning light, on a white dead nettle. When it gets to this time of year things are not so frantic for them and they tend to settle more often. Amazing how it blended in with the foliage. The wings even have little brown 'blemishes' on them, similar to those that can be found on leaves.

I've posted brimstones quite a few times before so have decided to feature this yellow shell moth, which is a first for me. These moths, which fly in the daytime when disturbed, are very variable in colour and pattern. The name comes from their resemblance to some seashells.
