Apollo Butterfly
Our tour group took another long drive from our hotel in the Vercors highlands, but with just a couple of relatively short walks at the end. Nonetheless it was a very productive day, with a fair number of birds and lots of butterflies. The best of the latter, at least in my view, was this one: the Apollo. On our last tour with European butterflies, to Hungary and Slovakia two years ago, we only saw one, and I could only photograph it held by a guide (as you see in the link). This time we saw several in one area; this one actually perched for four minutes! (There are many subspecies--I don't know which one this is.) Again it's getting late and I will sign off.
