Royden Park
This was taken this afternoon in the rain at Royden park. This is a lovely part of the Wirral, and includes a walled garden & waymarked trails through woodlands, rising to the heights of Thurstaston common & Thors stone. It offers fine views across the Dee estuary to the mountains of North East Wales. Summer views of open rolling heathland with its carpet of dull purples and browns are familiar to many people. However, the beauty of heathland hides a living community of highly specialised plants and animals.
It is this adaptation and specialisation which makes heathland so important. Thurstaston Common has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (S.S.S.I) and Local Nature Reserve because of its regional importance as a heathland and due to the occurrence of locally endangered plants and habitats.
