Checking her hair

She stopped talking in mid-sentence, her attention caught by her own reflection. When she had finished tidying her hair, she picked up where she had left off, without missing a beat. She was waiting for my answer, but all I could think was that it must surely be unusual to pause like that in the middle of a proposal?
