Corgarff Castle
The start of the holiday.
Set off early to get to Braemar before 9am as Mr Rat was running to our first week's destination - Aviemore. This is about 26 miles through the high pass of the Lairigh Ghru with some very rough stuff underfoot.
I had to drive about twice that distance to get to Aviemore over some high, narrow, hilly and winding roads but with some great scenery. It was cold, windy and bright up there and I stopped a few times for pics.
This castle is in the middle of nowhere and this is a great angle on it.
One of the extras is the o;d Bridge of Gairn which I'd just driven over and the second is Mr Rat just before the finish 5 and a quarter hours after starting. He was first 60+ and a bit battered (knees and elbows) having fallen over 4x, though not as battered as the first woman over 60 who wasn't far behind him. Nothing serious, though
