“Crossing The Bar”

Another early start but at least I’ll be tired for the flight. I had promised to attend the committal of two Royal Naval Veterans ashes at sea this morning.
We met at the Park & Ride to embark and I confess to feeling a little dismayed to find that ‘Bugler Bill’ and I were the only ones in blazer, beret and tie but as they were not my relatives it wasn’t my call.
We sailed out past Black Rock before stopping the engines for a simple service with Military Honours for our Shipmates.
We then retired to the Marina Bar for a ‘wobbly coffee’ to toast them on their way.
We then finished packing before an evening meal with Sam.
Clare and I headed off for Heathrow at twenty to eleven, the start of a long journey.
