Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Beach Walkers

This week the long morning walks on the beach have been a favorite daily event. I'm not sure who loves it more, Mr. Fun or the three pooches. We entered the beach at the public access on Fifth Street and walked north all the way to the pier. Mr. Fun got us a cup of very hot coffee at the coffee stand and then we sat and drank at the tables located at the entrance to the pier before we walked back on the main road, which is Ocean Avenue, south toward Fourth Avenue, and then up the hill to the house.

During this birthday and Thanksgiving holiday week, we have had a variety of weather. Rain one day, sunshine the next, and wind, and it's definitely been cold. Our big warm jackets are worn whenever we head outside. This has been an amazing November birthday celebration. Even though the real day of my birthday is the 17th, I celebrate the entire month.

There aren't any chain stores or malls and stewardship of this awesome coastline is very serious here. It was more than a year ago that we found our long-time fondness for California's Central Coast growing into a complete love affair. Actually it probably started in January of 2009 when we drove slowly through this town of Cayucos one morning, stopped at the Super Market, walked Bob Dog, and then headed north toward the Big Sur Coastline to eventually arrive in Monterey where we would meet my sister and then journey north to the top of the Monterey Bay to spend a week in a vacation house right on the shoreline. But I have gotten down a rabbit trail now . . .

. . . This week we transformed that fondness for this Central Coast into a marriage so that we can have a long relationship with this little coastal community of Cayucos, which has a population of 3,002!

We began seriously looking for a place to purchase well over a year ago. We commenced with the serious paperwork this past August while we were here for a few days of vacation and found want we thought was a deal and something we could enjoy; then we continued with our vacation heading north to Monterey. The past several months have been an interesting journey with a few twists and turns, ups and downs, and definitely some scary moments.

That part of the journey has now concluded. A new chapter began this week and a shiny metal key was placed in our hands. We only told three friends, who are important people in our lives: the friend who manages our investments so that someday we can retire, the friend who takes care of all our property and vehicle insurances, and one older couple we have known for 30 years and who have owned a vacation/retirement home in this little township for 12+ years. All of these folks, when they learned of our desire, gave us a nod of approval and serious encouragement toward making this relationship permanent.

Good night from California's Central Coast.
Rosie (& Mr. Fun, and Chloe, Mitzi, and Max), aka Carol

P.S. Because we've had very little access to the Internet while here on the Central Coast, this is being back-blipped.
