Schwerin Castle
Continuing on our way west to Holland and eventually Calais, we took time in the delightful town of Schwelen (we can almost pronounce this one). Very picturesque buildings, a few interesting street photos and then the Castle. It dates originally from 1160 but has been modified over the years particularly in the 16th & 17th Centuries. It now hosts the regional parliament for the new German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania formed after the German unification in 1990.
In the grounds there was a frame for posing with a great background – we posed Pepper much to the amusement of other visitors.
Now parked alongside a canal which is very calm and peaceful – I saw an otter swimming along earlier but by the time I had a lens pointing at it, it was a bit too far away to be worthy of display!
